Exhibition at Victoria Hall Gallery - April & May 2024

This exhibition delves into the realms of body, movement, spaces, and the transformative essence of educational environments. Our encounters with diverse settings - bustling city streets, serene natural landscapes, or the enclosed walls of a gallery - evoke unique responses within us. The architecture, layout, and ambiance of a space subtly shape our bodies, prompting adaptation that mirrors the surroundings. These concepts form the core of my artistic practice.

For instance, "The Fourth Corner," filmed on Fogo Island, Newfoundland, explores the island's lore as the "fourth corner of the world" in flat earth mythology. Fogo Island also hosts four artist studios designed by architect Todd Saunders, serving as contemporary art hubs for global residents. Through "The Fourth Corner," nature and humanity converge as architects, expressing the landscape's poetry through dance.

Another piece, "La Baie," features my sister and me dancing together, highlighting the deep connection between humans and their origins. The choreography symbolizes the intertwining of family bonds and our complex relationship with our places of origin.

Furthermore, digital integration has revolutionized our interactions with surroundings and learning experiences. The digital realm, accessible via computers, tablets, and smartphones, expands our horizons beyond physical spaces, creating new avenues for interaction. Several artworks explore this theme, reflected in the exhibition's physical components. Viewers can use their cell phones to augment artworks for an expanded experience. Augmented content ranges from video overlays to enriching soundscapes. Engaging in this way guides viewers towards introspection, prompting contemplation of their existence in physical and online realms.
